In 2020 I survived a stroke that occurred due to a blood clot in my back of my head, that was there because an artery had a random tear. Did you know you can tear your arteries just by violently coughing or sneezing? Crazy. Anyway, I escaped death that day. I fought for my life, I was patient #1 on a new procedure at Westchester Medial.

Here is the full account of the experience, as dictated into my phone, while I was recovering in the hospital: Stroke Notes

This is a non profit that I am starting to benefit Stroke Survivors who are still in the middle of parenthood. Please spread the word, donate, or apply if you are a stroke survivor in need. We plan to provide free of charge mental health therapy and childcare across the US. Approximately 1200 Parents die every year following their stroke. Lets keep families together, by limiting stress, and promoting health.

This is a poster I had made to promote Stroke Awareness to the under 45 crowd. I had no idea there was a stroke acronym, and if you’d like to use it, please link to my story. Thank you.

The only reason I had an inkling that I was having a stroke was because my hand wasn’t opening my phone. I was trying to focus on my hand unlocking my phone, but my hand kept going to the side of my phone. In that moment I remembered this TED talk linked below:

In this talk, she mentions the same thing, so I screamed to the patrons at the cafe to call 911. So many elements of that morning aligned to save my life, this was one of the most important elements. Acting fast, meant I qualified for the surgery.

The BE FAST acronym is great, but I had no idea it even existed. It is my goal to bring the BE FAST acronym to a younger audience. Lets wear it on t-shirts, lets put the stickers everywhere, and lets put it on our tote bags. Lets get the word out to act fast and watch for these signs.
